1972 Equatorial Guinea Munich Olympic Medals Stamp Set

1972 Equatorial Guinea Munich Olympic Medals Stamp Set Released as a set of seven stamps from Equatorial Guinea, they show some of the gold medalists from the 1972 Olympic Summer Games in Munich.  The first gold medalist is Ulrike Meyfarth, a high jumper from West Germany. At the time, Meyfarth became the youngest athlete to win a gold medal in an individual athletics competition, at only 16 years old. Meyfarth won her gold medal in the women's high jump event.  During the 1972 Summer Games, Valeriy Borzov of the USSR won multiple gold medals, with wins in the 100 and 200m events. Borzov also won a sliver medal in the 4 x 100m relay.  Mark Spitz, an American swimmer, had one of the greatest performances in Olympic history. Spitz won seven gold metals, a record that wasn't broken until the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
